PSAT Exam 2025

The PSAT exam will be held on Saturday, October 11, 2025, beginning at 8:00 AM at Lakeville North High School.

Who can take the PSAT?

• Open to Sophomores and Juniors

• Cost: $40

• Test length: 2 hours, 45 minutes (unless approved for extended-time accommodations)

• Registration deadline: Friday, October 3 at 10:00 PM

How to Register

1. Log into the Infinite Campus portal on your mobile device

2. Select School Store in the left sidebar menu

3. Click the Shop button for Lakeville South High School

4. Select Test Fees

5. Choose PSAT (View)

6. Select the recipient, then add to your cart and proceed to payment

Make-Up Exam

• Date: Tuesday, October 14 at 8:00 AM

• Location: Lakeville South High School

• The make-up is only for students who miss the regular test date due to a valid reason (illness, conflict, etc.).

• All students should register for the October 11 exam; absentees will automatically be moved to the make-up date.

PSAT/NMSQT

The Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT) is an optional standardized test offered to students in grades 10–11 each fall. It is administered by the College Board and co-sponsored by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation.

Why Take the PSAT/NMSQT?

• Provides practice for the SAT

• Juniors’ scores determine eligibility for National Merit Scholarships

• Students considering PSEO classes who haven't taken the SAT or ACT may use their PSAT score for applications

• Allows students to compare their performance with other college-bound students nationwide

What Does the Test Measure?

• Critical reading skills

• Math problem-solving skills

• Writing skills

After the Test

• Students receive detailed feedback on their performance

• Participants may choose to receive information directly from colleges

ASVAB Testing Dates: TBD

Although no longer required for graduation from Lakeville South High School, the ASVAB Career Exploration Program helps you identify your skills and interests, explore jobs, and develop your school plans for after high school. It's another tool provided to help search out what post-secondary options might be best for you. This test is FREE and generally offered to interested students on a non-school or late start day. Transportation would be on their own for this optional exam.

Testing Window: Jan. 26 - Mar. 19, 2026

Minnesota students identified as English learners (ELs) require an additional assessment to determine their progress toward English language proficiency. These students take the WIDA ACCESS assessment annually. English learners who receive special education services and meet alternate assessment participation guidelines may take the WIDA Alternate ACCESS.

The WIDA ACCESS is the English language proficiency assessment, and the WIDA Alternate ACCESS is the alternate assessment for English learners with significant cognitive disabilities. Both measure students’ English-language development in reading, writing, listening, and speaking. Students take the WIDA ACCESS or WIDA Alternate ACCESS each year until they meet the state's language proficiency requirements and are exited from EL services. The WIDA ACCESS and WIDA Alternate ACCESS assessments are developed by the WIDA Consortium. Additional information about the WIDA English Language Development Standards can be found on the English Language Development Standards page of the MDE website.

ACT Testing Day at LSHS: Tuesday, March 10, 2026

Juniors in the Cougar Class of 2027 will have the opportunity to take the ACT at Lakeville South on Tuesday, March 10, 2026, during Digital Learning Day.

• Cost: $52.50 (reduced for students who qualify for educational benefits)

• Registration window: Opens in late November 2025 through Infinite Campus - School Store

• Location: Lakeville South High School

• Note: Juniors not taking the ACT will not report to school and will have a digital learning day instead.

How to Register

Day of ACT Test Instructions

Arrival:

• Students must arrive between 7:45–7:55 AM and report to their Cougar Time classroom.

• Testing room changes (if applicable) will be communicated before March 10.

• The exam will begin promptly at 8:05 AM. Students arriving late will not be admitted.

What to Bring:

• A picture ID (school ID preferred)

• A fully charged iPad

• An approved calculator (ACT calculator policy)

• Snack/beverage for the break

Additional Details:

• Extended-time testers will have a lunch provided or may bring their own.

• Do NOT bring: phones or smartwatches.

After the Exam:

• Standard time testers finish around 11:45 AM.

• Extended time testers finish around 1:45 PM.

• Students are excused once testing is complete, but may remain in the Commons if waiting for bus transportation. Lunch will be provided for those students.

Make-up Exam: A make-up ACT will be offered in late March 2026 (date TBD).

The SAT is not offered through Lakeville South High School. If you would like to take the SAT, you will register and take it on your own through collegeboard.org.

The SAT is a college entrance exam accepted by most colleges and universities nationwide. Students should always check individual college websites for their specific entrance exam requirements.

• Provides another option for college entrance exams (alongside the ACT)

• Accepted by many colleges and universities across the U.S., especially on the East and West coasts

Registration

The state's test window for MCA: Reading & Math and MTAS/Alternate MCA: Reading, Math & Science is March 2 - April 30, 2026. The state's test window for MCA Science is March 2 - May 8, 2026.

Minnesota students take the Minnesota Comprehensive Assessments (MCAs) each spring. These tests show how well students are learning the Minnesota Academic Standards.

• Reading MCAs are given to students in grades 3-8 and 10.
• Math MCAs are given to students in grades 3-8 and 11.
• Science MCAs are given in grades 5 and 8, and once in high school.

Students who receive special education services and meet alternate assessment eligibility requirements take the Minnesota Test of Academic Skills (MTAS) or Alternate Minnesota Comprehensive Assessment (Alt MCA) in place of the MCA in the same grades.

Most Minnesota students will take the MCA online during their school day, likely in their classrooms. The MTAS/Alt MCA is given by a teacher or another school staff. Each Minnesota school district decides when students will take these assessments within a designated spring testing window.

AP EXAM Dates: May 4 - 15, 2026

Although optional, taking the Advanced Placement (AP)® exam is an important part of all AP courses. Lakeville South High School staff encourages all students to take AP exams for the AP classes they have taken during the school year. Scoring well on an AP exam can often result in college credit being earned, saving a significant amount of tuition money and time. The AP Program is prepared to meet schools and students where they are this year. AP will support in-school testing in 2026 because administering exams in schools maximizes access and opportunity.

During the first two weeks of school, all students taking an AP class in the first semester will be creating a mycollegeboard.com account during their AP classes so they can access online resources, AP scores, etc. They will also be asked to indicate if they will be taking the AP exam in May. AP exams cost $95 each. The initial deadline  is 11:59 p.m. on October 31, 2025. The price will increase until the final deadline in mid November. See AP Exam Fees & Due Dates below. Students with questions about financial assistance should contact their Counselor. Please visit the School Store on Campus Portal to sign up and pay for your exam(s).
